The Book of Jonah
The Book of Jonah is the story of a prophet who tries to outrun God and fails spectacularly. Sent to warn Nineveh, Jonah bolts in the opposite direction, sparking a storm that exposes his flight. Thrown overboard and swallowed by a giant fish, he hits rock bottom, prays, and is spit back into purpose. Nineveh repents instantly—much to Jonah’s frustration. In the end, God uses a plant, a worm, and a hot wind to show Jonah that divine justice is rooted in compassion. It’s a sharp, surprising reminder that God’s mercy often challenges us more than His commands.
